Chicken and Waffles recipe

Hi Friends! So I want to share with you a recent recipe that I put together. I’ve been wanting to make homemade chicken and waffles for a while. So last night I finally made this southern dish and to be honest, I’m already thinking about leftovers and having it again for brunch today.

I was looking on a fellow bloggers stories and she was talking about this hot honey and searched it and had seen a few different ideas that I could use the hot honey on. One being chicken and waffles. So I decided to whip up a creative recipe and here it is.

Chicken

I used chicken wings, you can use whichever part of the chicken you like best- thighs or breast- make it your own.

I seasoned my chicken with sea salt and pepper- as a southerner, seasoning is a good thing. So season up!

Dry ingredients for the chicken 3 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of paprika, 2 tablespoons of garlic powder. I added more Sea Salt and pepper in the flour mixture.

Wet ingredients for the chicken 2 in a half cups of buttermilk, depending on your heat tolerance about a 1/4 cup of hot sauce, a 1/4 cup of Red Clay hot honey and 2 eggs.

Dip the chicken in the Buttermilk mixture and then the dry mixture and then back into the buttermilk mixture and then back into the dry. So basically a double dip for the extra crispy and flavorful chicken. Then fry the chicken in vegetable oil until thoroughly cooked.

Waffles

Waffles are easy to make but I did tweak my recipe and added cinnamon, sugar, eggs, vanilla and my liquid was buttermilk, instead of regular milk. They were so light and fluffy.

The honey butter sauce

This sauce was a hit! We couldn’t get enough of it. It served as the perfect sauce for both the waffles and chicken. I might even use this sauce for different future recipe. It’s that good.

One stick on butter melted, I added about a 1/4 cup hot honey , a 1/2 tablespoon cayenne pepper or more if you like heat, a teaspoon of garlic powder, a splash of salt- I added maple syrup for a little extra sweetness. Stir together. Add a little more hot honey for a little extra flavor.

I garnished this recipe with rosemary; I think that combination is great together.

When all is done serve it up! You won’t be disappointed. It is so scrumptious. Let me know if you make this tasty recipe.
